My Bishop!
Best friends Greg and Marti Rickel have long been Monday lunch regulars at bar seats 7 and 8 at Matt’s in the Market. They’re great traveling companions and even better people. Over the years, we’ve shared unforgettable trips to Montreal, New Orleans, New York, Santa Fe, and Honolulu etc.
Greg once invited me to join his group of 40 travelers on a journey to Israel, with a side trip to Jordan. While on that trip, I had two firsts: I got my first tattoo and rode a camel.
By day three, someone on the bus asked what my relationship was to Bishop Greg. I just said, “I’m his bartender.” Greg gave the group a big thumbs up and that was that.
Before he became the Episcopal Bishop of Washington State, Greg served as a priest in Austin, Texas—where, believe it or not, he baptized Tito Beveridge’s son. Yes, that Tito. You can’t make this stuff up.
